Privacy Policy
Dola is a social app for people who love yoga — a place to find practice partners, share your journey, and join classes, challenges and meetups. Dola is operated by Dola App Team ("Dola", "we", "us" or "our").
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Dola mobile app, website and related services (together, the "Service"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and in plain language. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Service.
This Policy does not cover services run by third parties, even if you reach them through Dola. Please read their privacy policies before giving them your information.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information. When you sign up we collect details such as your nickname, profile photo, email address or phone number, and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the basic account information those providers share with us.
- Profile information. You may choose to add your age or date of birth, gender, city, a short bio, the yoga styles you practise (for example Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin or Ashtanga), your experience level, goals and interests. Your profile is visible to other members, so please think about what you share.
- Wellness information you choose to share. Some features let you record practice sessions, goals or notes about how you feel. This is optional. If you share information about your health or body (for example an injury you want partners to know about), we use it only to provide the feature you asked for and only with your consent. You can delete it at any time.
- Content. Posts, photos, videos, comments, likes, practice check-ins and anything else you publish on Dola. Depending on where you post it, this content may be public to other members.
- Messages. The content of messages you send and receive through Dola, along with when they were sent and read and who took part in the conversation. We process messages to deliver them and, using automated tools and human review where needed, to detect spam, scams and abuse. Please avoid sending sensitive information in messages.
- Events and classes. If you create or join a class, challenge or meetup, we collect details such as the time, place and attendees so we can run it.
- Purchases. If you buy a subscription or other paid feature, the purchase is processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive confirmation of the purchase, the product and your purchase history, but we do not receive or store your full card number.
- Support and feedback. Information you give us when you contact us, report a problem or answer a survey.
Information collected automatically
- Usage information. How you use Dola — for example when you log in, the features and pages you use, searches, and how you interact with other members.
- Device information. Device model, operating system, app version, language and time zone settings, IP address, mobile carrier, network type, device identifiers (such as advertising identifiers where you allow it) and crash and performance data.
- Location. With your permission, we use your device's location to show nearby members, studios and events. You can turn this off at any time in your device settings; we may still infer an approximate location (such as your city) from your IP address.
- Cookies and SDKs. Our website and app use cookies, software development kits (SDKs) and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your settings, measure performance and understand how the Service is used. Some are provided by our analytics and advertising partners. You can control cookies in your browser and reset or limit advertising identifiers in your device settings.
Information from others
- Other members may share information about you, for example when they mention you, invite you to an event or submit a report.
- Partners such as sign-in providers, app stores, analytics providers and advertising partners may share information with us, consistent with their own policies and your settings.
2. How we use your information
We use personal information only where we have a valid reason (a "legal basis") under applicable law:
To provide the Service (performance of our contract with you)
- create and manage your account and profile;
- show you members, practice partners, classes and events that match your interests and location;
- deliver messages, posts and notifications;
- process purchases, subscriptions and refunds;
- provide customer support and enforce our Terms of Use.
For our legitimate interests
- keep Dola safe — verify accounts, check that members meet our age requirement, and detect fraud, spam, scams and harmful behaviour;
- understand how Dola is used so we can fix problems and improve features;
- tell you about updates and new features;
- protect our rights and the rights of our members and others, and handle disputes and legal claims.
With your consent
- use precise location, camera, photos and microphone when you allow it;
- process wellness or health information you choose to share;
- send marketing messages and show personalised ads, where consent is required.
You can withdraw consent at any time in the app or your device settings. This does not affect processing that happened before.
To comply with law
We may use and keep information when required by law, regulation, court order or a request from a government authority.
3. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as described below and only to the extent needed.
- Other members. Your profile, posts and the events you join are visible to other members according to your settings. Messages are visible to the people you send them to.
- Service providers. Companies that help us run Dola, such as cloud hosting, data storage, messaging infrastructure, content moderation, customer support, payment verification, analytics and crash reporting. They may only use your information to provide services to us.
- Advertising and analytics partners. We may share device identifiers and usage information with partners that help us measure and improve our marketing. Where required, we ask for your consent first (including through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt).
- Affiliates. Companies in our corporate group, for the purposes described in this Policy.
- Legal and safety. Law enforcement, regulators or others when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, or needed to protect the safety of any person, prevent fraud, or protect our rights.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of assets or similar transaction, your information may be transferred. We will require the new owner to continue to protect it in line with this Policy.
We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
4. International data transfers
Our servers are currently located in the United States, and our service providers may process information in other countries. Data protection laws in those countries may differ from those where you live. When we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps required by applicable law — such as standard contractual clauses — to make sure it stays protected. Contact us if you would like more information.
5. How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it to provide the Service and for the purposes in this Policy. When you delete your account, we remove your profile from the Service and delete or anonymise your personal information, normally within 30 days, except where we must keep certain information longer — for example to comply with legal or tax obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, or enforce our Terms.
Messages you sent remain on the recipients' devices and in their conversation history. Backup copies may take longer to be overwritten.
6. Your choices and rights
In the app
- Edit your profile and delete your posts and photos at any time.
- Control permissions for location, camera, photos, microphone and notifications in your device settings.
- Block and report members you do not want to interact with.
- Delete your account in the app under Settings → Account → Delete account, or by emailing us at support@dolapp.yoga. Uninstalling the app does not delete your account.
Rights under privacy law
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and how we use it;
- get a copy of your information, including in a portable format;
- correct inaccurate information;
- have your information deleted;
- restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing;
- withdraw consent;
- not be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
To exercise these rights, contact us at support@dolapp.yoga. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
7. How we protect your information
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards — including encryption in transit, access controls and ongoing monitoring — to protect your personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
You can help by using a strong password, keeping your sign-in details private, and being careful about what you share with people you have not met.
8. Children
Dola is only for adults aged 18 or older (or the age of majority where you live, if higher). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn that a minor has created an account, we will close it and delete their information. If you believe a minor is using Dola, please contact us.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our Service, technology or the law. We will post the new version on this page and update the date above. If the changes are significant, we will notify you in the app or by other means, and where required by law we will ask for your consent.
10. Contact us
If you have questions about this Policy or how we handle your information, please contact us:
- Email: support@dolapp.yoga
We aim to respond within 30 days.
